Tiffany Lighting

Question: I visited the Kinsmen Dream Lotto Home and noticed the use of Tiffany Lighting within. Is this a current lighting trend?
Pam: Tiffany is timeless! When I think of Tiffany I first think of a flower or fruit bowl theme. But with the introduction of the Southwestern influence and Frank Lloyd Wright, this category of lighting has expanded in many directions. Tiffany can actually be used in many lighting applications to give a traditional, contemporary, prairie or mission look to your home.
Shane: Hey, Pam – did you know that Tiffany all started with the man, Louis Comfort Tiffany in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s? He was an accomplished artist working with watercolors, oils and pottery; and a designer of furniture, textiles, wall coverings and jewelry.
Pam: Yes! And, in his early twenties he experimented with the chemistry and techniques of glass making trying to duplicate the opalescent glass of the ancient Roman and Egyptian glass he had seen in his travels. He combined several colors of glass and with chemicals and metals, manipulated them to create 5000 colors and textures.
Shane: Some tips when buying Tiffany are to avoid dull, colorless glass. It should be just as beautiful unlit as it is lit! Also, the copper foiling which holds the glass pieces together should be unobtrusive and add to the design of the shade. To get the best color out of your Tiffany use a fluorescent bulb.
Pam: Oh! And by the way, we access many brands of Tiffany lighting - our most popular being Ram, Quoizel, and Kichler.
