Back in 1998 when electrician Shane Chisholm started his own electrical contracting company known as The Electric Company, he saw a need to simplify the lighting experience for both homeowners and contractors alike.  A need he filled and developed, along with wife Pam, in the form of  Kerry Jayms Lighting.

Specializing in light fixtures for all home décor needs, Kerry Jayms Lighting in conjunction with the Electric Company offers a unique service that allows for the layout of a home’s electrical and lighting placements while concurrently picking and choosing the fixtures that would best suit the function of the room, and the custom tastes of the individual.  A difference experience altogether from the traditional method of laying out the lighting placements and then choosing light fixtures to “fill the holes.”

Working with homeowners, designers, electricians and contractors Kerry Jayms Lighting has developed a reputation for delivering an outstanding combination of both products and service. Exclaims Shane “I love what I do, and I love dealing with people, if I can help them walk away satisfied with the choices they’ve made and the product they’ve paid for while creating a lighting experience for them that is both functional and beautiful, then that’s what it’s all about.”

As word spreads of the vast array of fixtures that Kerry Jayms Lighting carries, more people are “walking in” to see for themselves what it is they have to offer, a development that necessitated the growth of their showroom and the addition of home décor items to complement their inventory of lighting fixtures.  “The showroom began to look “top heavy,” explains Pam.  “Getting into complementary home décor features was just the next logical step.”

Originally only 800 sq. ft. the business has now grown to the point that their showroom has been enlarged to 2500 sq. ft and plans are in the developmental stages to expand the showroom even further.

“The population of Medicine Hat is just so diverse in its tastes and its style that it’s difficult to carry just one product,” says Shane.

“That’s why we try and showcase every different possible type of lighting,” explains Pam.  “From contemporary to classic, modern to traditional with all of our inventory chosen to suit a wide spectrum of budgets, from basic to high end.”

It was this great need for variety and their belief in offering their clients the latest knowledge and products that prompted them to become members of the American Lighting Association.

“We’re really pleased with what the American Lighting Association has provided for us as members,” says Shane.  Along with access to the latest in trends and energy efficient solutions, and the opportunity to view literally thousands of designs when they attend the largest lighting show in the world, held in Dallas each year, membership has brought the Chisholms and their staff the opportunity to become certified as licensed Lighting Consultants, an achievement they are all very excited to be a part of.

“The course is really teaching us a lot,” says Pam.  “Whereas Shane already has a lot of this knowledge from his background as an electrician, this certification will ensure that everyone who is on our staff will be able to fully service our clients needs, from layout and blueprint knowledge, to informative advice that can help them with all of their choices from aesthetics to efficiency to function.  Advice that will come from a solid knowledge base.”
